The Microinsurance Innovation Facility, a partnership between the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, will help promote decent work for millions of low-income people in developing countries. Over the next five years, the Facility will issue 40 to 50 innovation grants for a total of US$18 million.

Specific Project Experience: Mr. Ulrich Hess is Senior Economist at the World Bank, currently seconded to WFP Chief of Business Risk Planning where develops the second phase of integrated risk financing for livelihood protection in Ethiopia along with other innovative financing initiatives. He started work on market based risk management techniques at the World Bank and IFC, assisting price and weather insurance initiatives in India starting in 2003, subsequently all over the world. Prior to joining the World Bank as young professional in 1998, Mr. Hess has been working in management and development consulting. He is the editor and co-author of “Managing Agricultural Production Risk” and “Rural Finance Innovations” and numerous articles on risk management.
